HerMES: SPIRE galaxy number counts at 250, 350, and 500 μm*
Emission at far-infrared wavelengths makes up a significant fraction of the total light detected from galaxies over the age of Universe. Herschel provides an opportunity for studying galaxies at the peak wavelength of their emission. Our aim is to provide a benchmark for models of galaxy population evolution and to test pre-existing models of galaxies. With the Herschel Multi-tiered Extra-galac...
متن کاملBLAST: CORRELATIONS IN THE COSMIC FAR-INFRARED BACKGROUND AT 250, 350, AND 500 μm REVEAL CLUSTERING OF STAR-FORMING GALAXIES
We detect correlations in the cosmic far-infrared background due to the clustering of star-forming galaxies, in observations made with the Balloon-borne Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope (BLAST), at 250, 350, and 500 μm. Since the star-forming galaxies which make up the far-infrared background are expected to trace the underlying dark matter in a biased way, measuring clustering in the far...
متن کاملGalaxy Counts at 450 Μm and 850 Μm
Surveys of the distant Universe have been made using the SCUBA submillimeter(submm)-wave camera at the JCMT. 450and 850μm data is taken simultaneously by SCUBA in the same 5-arcmin2 field. Deep 850-μm counts of high-redshift dusty galaxies have been published; however, at 450 μm both the atmospheric transmission and antenna efficiency are lower, and the atmospheric noise is higher, and so only ...
متن کاملLaser Damage Testing for Ion Beam Sputtered Coatings at 2 μm and 3 μm
The number and variety of laser materials in the 2-3 μm spectral region is growing as fast as the applications. Example materials are the ‘traditional’ mid-infrared solid state crystals: Ho:YAG, Tm:YAG, Ho:Tm:YAG, Er:YAG. There are also new or less standard Erbium-doped materials such as Er:YSGG, Er:Y2O3 5, Er:ZBLAN fiber6. Several Chromium-doped chalcogenides7 cover virtually the entire 2-3 μm...
متن کاملRough surface interferometry at 10.6 μm
An IR Twyman-Green interferometer is described. It uses a cw CO 2 laser as a light source operating at a 10.6-µm wavelength. Theoretical analysis and experimental measurements of the relationship between the contrast of the interference fringes and the rms roughness of test surfaces are discussed. Interferometric testing results and special alignment methods are shown for rough surface optics.
